Drip irrigation system is a modern method of irrigation. There are multiple reasons behind the discovery of drip irrigation method. The main reason is water shortage and reduce the unnecessary water usage in irrigation.
Let's understand what are the sections of drip irrigation and how to install it.
Drip irrigation system in agriculture and cost
Diagram and Sections of Drip irrigation system
The drip irrigation system works in three basic sections; Storage, water supply control, and dripping water.
Storage of water
There are two parts to the water storage section.
First supply- This supply is direct from the underground water. There are controller valves associated with this to handle the source water supply.
Second supply- The first water supply store the water in further tanks for later use(in case of electricity shortage).
Supply control
This supply is associated with another valve to control the water supply direct for the plants.
This secondary supply works as the primary supply for most of the period.
It is easy to set and note the water supply to each plant.
Dripping water
The final section is the dripping junctions of water pipelines.
This section adds the small pipes with the main source pipeline. The main pipeline allows water to flow for all the drip sections.
Requirement for Drip irrigation system
- Tank storage- For one-acre land, at least a 1,000 liters tank is required.
- Tank adaptor- The tank adaptor helps to watertight it with the valve for further supply.
- Single union valve- The single union valve controls the storage tank water supply. Mostly, in drip irrigation, single union valves are used.
- Superflow filter- The superflow filter cleans the supply water. The cleaning of storage water depends on the quality of superflow filter layers.
- Pipes for direct connection- This is the main pipe for the drip irrigation system. This pipeline is 4 to 5 inches in diameter and allows water to flow straights. These pipelines take the bend at the edges of the farming land with the help of elbows.
- Control valve in a direct pipeline- It is obvious that sometimes, heavy machines irrigation can break the main pipeline by crossing it. You need a control valve to stop the water supply to do not to let the water go waste. Just cut the main pipeline and add two vertical pipes with both ends. Joint the valve in the middle of these vertical pipes to connect them with each other.
- Water supply poly tubes- Cut the poly tubes of 4mm according to the circumference of the plants. Make multiple holes according to your need in the poly tubes to add the drippers.
- PVC tee- Add PVC tee at one end of each poly tube.
How to install a drip irrigation system
Following are the steps to install a drip irrigation system on your farm-
- First of all, install the pressure control valve in the main underground water supply.
- Connect the underground water supply with the storage tank. Add another control valve with a superflow filter.
- Dig in straight lines in the parameter of the farming land(at the boundaries, in each row).
- Now install the main 4 to 5 inches pipeline in this. You can use Teflon tape or PVC glue to attach them.
- Install multiple control valves in the main pipeline.
- Now, cut the poly tubes according to the circumference of the plants or trees. Make holes and fix drippers in each cutting. Add PVC tee at one end of the poly tube.
- Make holes in the main pipeline(Two holes at one point with some distance). These two holes will provide water at both opposite ends. Make holes as much as plants you have.
- Add PVC pipes of 1 inch in each hole.
- Connect all the poly tubes with a common pipeline. you need to cut the pipeline and add both ends to the PVC tee of the poly tube.
- Now, add this pipeline to the main pipeline with the help of an already added pipe.
- Your drip irrigation system is installed now.
Maintenance work in drip irrigation system
You need maintenance in the drip irrigation system once in a couple of months. Following are the reasons why you need maintenance in the drip irrigation system-
- You need to change the superflow filter in a few months.
- When accidentally you break the main supply then you need to temporarily bypass the whole supply. In this period you can fix the damage.
- Connect the drippers some distance from the PVC tee. In case, when tee gets broken or damaged, so you can cut it at a distance that does not affect the drippers.
