  • Head

Generally, both male and female Sirohi goats have a medium head. This head is almost plane and triangular from the forehead to the mouth. 

  • Body posture

Pure Sirohi goats have a tilt in mid-body posture. It is found that pure Sirohi goat back body stable at a 60-degree angle. In mixed Sirohi goats, the angle is between 25 degrees to 35 degrees. 

From the head to the back, Sirohi goats look like they have a sharp inclination in body posture. The front legs and head are in the same perpendicular line. 

  • Size

Male Sirohi goats can become taller between 40 inches to 44 inches. In females, the average height is 25 inches. 

Although legs are not long in Sirohi goats upper body section is bigger and taller in both males and females. 

  • Horns

In both male and female Sirohi goats, sharp horns are in the backward direction of the head. 

In some cases, mixed Sirohi goat horns vanish. 

  • Color

Generally, Sirohi goats are found in mixed colors like brown with light orange spots, black with white spots, etc. 

The ears are white with some black or brown spots of Sirohi goats. 

  • Udder

Normally, the udder size of Sirohi goats is small. But during the lactation period, it can increase in size. These udders don't have long nipples but small and sharp nipples. 

  • Weight 

In Sirohi goats, it is normal that male goats are heavier in size comparatively milk-producing Sirohi goats. 

The maximum weight that a male Sirohi goat can gain is 40 to 45 kg. A female Sirohi goat can gain 20 to 22 kg of weight maximum.

Sirohi goat is a good milk-producing goat breed. It is seen that by following a proper diet plan with Sirohi goats, they can produce 0.5 to 0.8 liters of goat milk daily. 

Although it is surprising still it is possible with Sirohi goats during their lactation period.

The average lactation period of first-time milk-producing goats is 3.5 to 4 months. In the next few years, it increases from liter to 1.2 liters of milk per day and then decreases after that. 

As the Sirohi goat lives a maximum of 15 to 18 years, it can produce milk till 8 to 11 years of age. During this, they face highs, lows, and a peak in milk production.

Female goats are cheaper than male goats. Female goat meat is start from 150 INR/kg to 180 INR/kg. 

Surprisingly, people sell their heavy male goats for 40,000 INR to 75,000 INR per male. Female goats are cheaper and range from 10,000 INR to 20,000 INR. 

Although, according to weight and size, the Sirohi goat price can vary. But small and young Sirohi goats are cheaper than matured Sirohi goats. 

Climate-friendly regions for Sirohi goat

Sirohi goat is a popular goat breed in Rajasthan of the Sirohi district. 

Sirohi goats like and use to high temperature and low moisture conditions. Sirohi goats are found in the near districts of Sirohi like Jalor, Pali, and Udaipur. It is also comfortable for Sirohi goats to survive in Northern Gujrat. 

Excluding most western parts of India, Sirohi goats can't survive in coastal areas, hill areas, and very low-temperature areas. 

Sirohi goats can handle high temperatures like 38 to 45 degrees Celcius in these regions. Because of very low humidity, Sirohi goats like dry weather.

Is Sirohi goat farming a profitable business?

For meat purposes, yes. Absolutely. Male Sirohi goats are good for goat farming for meat. Although goat milk is costlier than cow milk but not enough to sell it commercially. 

For the breeding purpose, Sirohi goat farming is highly profitable but before 1st year, you will not get enough profit. It is good to start with 10+1 Sirohi goats(10 females, 1 male) if you don't want to invest a big amount.
