The thing that bothers beginners of the Dairy farming business is the selection of high milk-producing cattle.

Holstein Friesian is the full name of HF cow.

For dairy farming purpose, people want to have hf cows instead of many desi cows. HF cow milk production is very high in comparison of desi Indian cows.

Let's understand the performance and all the important points of HF cow and its milk.

HF Cow and milk per day

HF cows are not Indian but they are popular in India. Some people can't distinguish between Jersey and hf cows.
Let's start with how to identify hf cows.

HF cow milk production per day in India

The cow milk production depends on the lactation frequency.

HF cow gets the first lactation after becoming at least 2 years old. Then for the next 8 to 10 months, she produces milk, and rest of 1.5 to 2 months she rests.

On the first lactation, Hf cow produces 35 to 40 liters of milk per day for the next 2 months. Later it starts to decrease and stop to 30 liters per day till the ending of the lactation period.

On next lactation, they produce 32 to 35 liters of milk for the first 2 months that decrease later and left 25 liters per day.

Similarly, on every lactation Hf cow start to give less and less milk as she becomes older.

On average, Hf cow produces 25 to 35 liters of milk on the first lactation, then it reduces between 20 to 30 liters in upcoming lactations.

How to identify HF cow?

Following description about hf cows is collected from local dairy farms and explained term by terms so that you will not  get confuse in future.

  • Weight- 490 to 550 kg(more than Jersey cow)
  • Body posture- A full-grown Hf cow's body becomes heavy but other parts of the body like legs, tail, and head size do not increase with the same ratio. A Straight slightly slope back helps Hf cow during delivery and saves them from the complexities during delivery.
  • Milk Udder- Hf cow has a bigger udder than others which is the reason for extra milk production. Some dairy farmers say that milk production does not depend on the size of the udder but a good diet.
  • Head shape- Hf cow head shape is very unique and interesting. Her mouth width  stays smaller than the back portion of the head as almost V shape and head is longer than ordinary cows.
  • Legs- hf cow hold V shape towards the ground. This means they give space to udder from the top and then come towards each other.
  • Tale- As same as Jersey cow, Hf cow holds a small tail.

Where to buy hf cows in India?

People want to buy things according to their choice. But what about the condition when limited stock is available.

People buy Hf cows from big and popular dairy farms where they have choices. They go with the basic idea of choice as much as they can. Later they complain that their animal is not well-behaving and producing milk according to their expectations.

Let's understand the truth. Most of the dairy farms sell their less milk-producing animals. They sell them just after their lactation and show the buyer that they are producing 40 liters of milk. But later people complain that such things are not happening later.

The sad truth is that no one wants to sell their best animal. They only can sell those are giving them profit as they expect.

So it is better to search those people who own only 2 or 3 particular Hf cows. Although they will sell them costly, and not easy to convince them, but they own the best breed of Hf cows. They don't have a blind crowd of animals to sell.

If you are going to have even the 20 Hf cows dairy farm, then we advice you to buy best animals by selecting one or two animal at once. First buy 20 animals one by one and then start your dairy farming business.

Can hf cow survive in hilly areas

The main reason why people hesitate to buy Hf cows in hill areas is the cold weather and climate.

In those hilly areas, where snow sustain for whole year, it is not possible to raise and do dairy farming with Hf cow.

In monsoon dependent region, where weather and climate change in a certain period, Hf cow can survive there will all precautions and proper care.

The best time to buy and take animals there is one month before ending the summer. It will provide them time to get use to with the upcoming winter.
