Sustainable dairy farming, project report, investment, and estimated profit margin

We have to face major challenges in the upcoming future regarding natural energy sources, water sources, agricultural land, quality products, etc. Continuous overuse of available natural resources is creating the main problems.

Without any plan to sustain in the future, it will create humongous problems in front of human-related to his daily life.

We need a sustainable farming system that can help us to sustain ourselves in the future. Let's understand the sustainable dairy farming system.

Sustainable dairy farming

In many countries, people adopt a simple business structure. Well, that is all right but they ignore the importance and scope of just more with their business structure. For example, people do dairy farming business for milk mainly.

Sustainable dairy farming project report

They sell it and also sell cows to earn profit but they ignore the rest of the resources they have in the same context. Cow dung is very important as it can use to make biogas, fertilizers, etc.

Principle of sustainable dairy farming

Sustainable dairy farming works on the base of using every available resource and using them to convert into renewable energy.

It means, in the dairy farming business, we are going to use cow manure to make biogas, and then biogas is going to be used for multiple energy-related purposes. Rest of the cow manure we can use in crops as fertilizer. We can use cow manure for an entire year. That is the only thing that will be available even during the drying period of dairy farming cows.

Hence, we are not wasting things and creating more resources for multi-purposes in those things we ignore most of the time.

Sustainable dairy farming Project report

Now, let's discuss how to implement sustainable dairy farming.

Requirements to start a sustainable dairy farm

Let's understand the requirements first to make a sustainable dairy farming-

Let's understand the requirements first to make a sustainable dairy farming-

A dairy farm of 20 cows

We discussed before the full dairy farming report for 20 cows. Now, we are going to understand the cow dung to make manure for the biogas plant.

You can collect 8 to 10 kg of cow dung daily. From 20 cows, you can get 150 to 180 kg of cow dung. You need to set a permanent person to collect the dung daily or you can do it by machines.

After collecting the whole cow dung per day, you need to keep it in the biofuel chamber you made to produce biogas. Daily cow dung collection keeps your eyes on the health of cows too.

Biogas plant setup

We have already discussed the process of setting up a biogas plant and the making of biogas. Let's understand the size of the chamber to collect the cow dung daily. The size of each chamber must be 5,000 to  6,000 liters.

You need to add two cow manure chambers to collecting and making biogas. When one biogas chamber is filled enough then you need another chamber to collect it. You can't waste fresh cow dung when one biogas chamber makes biogas from cow manure. For that, you need another chamber.

Hence, when one chamber stops making more biogas, then another one starts to make and then you collect the fresh cow dung manure in the first chamber. It saves your time, cow dung, and works continuously for the whole year.

Final products from sustainable dairy farming

From sustainable dairy farming, you will get three products either to sell or use for your work.

Milk- With the rate of 12 liters of milk per day, you will get 280 days in a year of the lactation period. During this period, you get 3,360 liters of milk in a year.

Biogas- From one chamber(5000 liters) of biogas, you get 1,20,000 liters of biogas till the chamber stops making biogas. Hence, in a month, you can get 1,50,000 liters of biogas. In a year, you can get 18,00,000 liters of biogas. Although this is a huge number when we use biogas, it spends quickly in comparison to LPG gas.

Organic compost-

At the end of each month, we get 2,800 kg of organic fertilizer from biogas plants. In a year, we can get up to 33,600 kg of organic compost.

Investment to make a sustainable dairy farm with 20 cows

20 cows dairy farming cost

  • One time cost- 20,00,000 INR
  • Investment per month- 1,00,000 INR/Month
Biogas plant making cost
  • One time cost- 3,50,000 INR
  • Investment per month- 10,000 INR(labor)
Total cost per month- 1,10,000 INR(Entire sustainable dairy farm)

Profit margin in the sustainable dairy farming business

  • Milk price per month- 20,000 INR
  • Biogas price per month- 1,50,000 INR
  • Organic compost price per month- 42,000 INR
Total price per month- 2,12,000 INR
Total profit margin per month- 1,02,000 INR

One thing we want to clear here that you get this profit margin after recovering your investment in making of dairy farming sustainable.
As we mentioned earlier that its a long term business so you need to keep patience for a good profit margin. This profit margin will increase with time in future.

Is sustainable dairy farming profitable too?

The question that bothers most thinkers is whether any sustainable business is profitable when it cost higher than our expectations. Well, you need to understand that in long-term businesses there are two types of investment in any business. The first investment is used to arrange resources and establish the business-related plant. The second investment is a period investment. It uses when after the completion of each cycle.

The first type of investment is very high in most businesses as well as in sustainable dairy farming businesses too.

But later profit margin in next few years is more than expected. You can earn profit in three ways by selling milk, biogas, and fertilizers.

So, we can say that after leaving the first year of sustainable dairy farming, it is a profitable business in the next upcoming years.
